If the problem still continues, take your guide hand off of the ball by about a half-inch and shoot with one hand. This will not let you shoot the ball with the thumb. You can squeeze your thumb against the index finger on your guide hand. Most players develop this problem when they are too weak to get the ball to the rim, and the habit carries through their teenage and adult years.
